Rajanylitys Israelista Jordaniaan - The Bordercrossing from Israel to Jordan

Tässä postauksessa käsittelen vain rajanylitystä Israelista Jordaniaan. Koska rajalla ei saa ottaa kuvia, kuvituksena toimii satunnaisia kuvia kyseiseltä reissulta. On this post I am only telling about our experience of crossing the border from Israel to Jordan. As it is not allowed to take pictures at the border, the pictures of this post are random pics from the trip.

Uusi aamu valkeni tavalliseen tapaan kuumana Eilatissa, ja meidän oli aika vaihtaa maisemaa ja itse asiassa koko maatakin. Pikaisen aamiaisen jälkeen lähdimme CS-hostiemme luota kohti Jordanian rajaa, tarkemmin sanottuna Wadi Araban rajanylityspaikkaa, joka sijaitsi noin 5 kilometrin päässä Eilatin keskustasta. Bussien puuttuessa maksoimme suosiolla 30 shekeliä taksikyydistä. Etukäteen jännitimme hiukan rajanylitysmuodollisuuksia, sillä olimme kuulleet, ettei Israelista poistuminen aina suju ongelmitta. Meitä ei kuitenkaan laitettu minkäänlaisiin kuulusteluihin - sen kun maksoimme maastapoistumismaksun (101 shekeliä per henkilö), saimme erilliselle lapulle maastapoistumisluvan ja tallustelimme Jordanian puolelle. Kuten Israeliin saapuessammekaan, ei passeihin tälläkään kertaa laitettu Israelin viranomaisten toimesta mitään leimoja.

Hiking in Ein Gedi

It was another hot morning in Eilat, but for us it was time to hit the road and change the country. After a quick breakfast we left our CS hosts and headed towards the Wadi Araba border crossing to Jordan, which is located about 5 kilometres from Eilat centre. As there were no buses going that way, we took a taxi ride for 30 shekels. Beforehand we were a little nervous about crossing the border, as we had heard it's not always plain sailing when leaving Israel. However, we were not interrogated at all - we just paid the exit fee (101 shekels per person), got a our exit permit on a separate piece of paper and walked to Jordan. As was the case also when arriving in Israel, the authorities didn't stamp our passports now either.

Koska tämän hetkisen tiedon mukaan Wadi Araban rajanylityspaikassa ei voi enää maksaa viisumimaksuja, olimme ostaneet jo etukäteen Jordan Passin, jonka myötä viisumia ei tarvitse ostaa - tuon Jordan Passin näyttäminen riittää, kunhan yöpyy Jordaniassa vähintään kolme yötä. Siihen sisältyy myös joko yhden, kahden tai kolmen päivän pääsymaksu Petraan (me olimme valinneet kahden päivän paketin hintaan 75 JOD eli vähän alle 100 euroa), pääsy Wadi Rumin luonnonsuojelualueelle sekä paljon muita nähtävyyksiä eri puolella maata, joihin emme kuitenkaan ehtineet. Totesimme tuon Jordan Passin kuitenkin tulevan myös kohtuullisen edulliseksi ja se oli joka tapauksessa viisumitilanteen kannalta tarpeellinen.

As at the moment it is not possible to pay the visa fees at the Wadi Araba border crossing, we had bought the Jordan Pass beforehand online. With Jordan Pass the visa fees are waived, as long as you stay in Jordan at least three nights, and it also includes either one, two or three day visit to Petra (we had opted for the two-day visit at the cost of 75 JOD so a bit less than 100 euro), entrance to Wadi Rum nature reserve as well as several other sights around the country, which we didn't have time to visit. In any case we found the Jordan Pass reasonably priced and necessary due to the visa fee situation.

Rajanylitys sujui kaikin puolin helposti - jonoja ei juurikaan ollut, joten vaikka paperien pyörittelyssä eri luukuilla hetki kestikin, koko prosessi oli suht helposti ja nopeasti ohi. Tarkoituksemme oli ottaa suoraan rajalta taksi Petraan (noin 60 JOD suuntaansa), ja toivoimme löytävämme muita matkailijoita, joiden kanssa jakaa tämä kulu. Koska rajaa ei ollut ylittämässä kovinkaan monta itsenäistä matkailijaa, jouduimme hetken odottelemaan, mutta löysimme sitten sveitsiläisen pariskunnan, jotka olivat myös matkalla Petraan ja jakoivat taksin kanssamme. Itse asiassa olisi kannattanut löytää taksinjakopartnerit jo ennen Jordanian puolelle pääsyä - taksikuskit eivät nimittäin katso hyvällä kyytien jakamista. Päästyämme perille Petraan, tai siis sen viereiseen turistikaupunkiin Wadi Musaan, noin puolentoista tunnin kuluttua kirjauduimme hotelliimme (Esperanza Petra), jota voin kyllä hyvin suositella - oikein mukava pieni hotelli kaikilla mukavuuksilla ja ystävällisellä palvelulla. Koska meillä oli kahden päivän lippu Petraan ja parhaat vierailuajat ovat iltapäivällä sekä varhain aamulla (tällä välttää sekä pahimman keskipäivän kuumuuden että suurimmat väkilaumat), päätimme tutustua tuohon ihmeiden kaupunkiin sinä iltapäivänä. First glimpses of the Treasury...

The border crossing went smoothly - there weren't a lot of queues, so even though you had to go to several different desks and it took some time to go through the papers etc, the whole process was done and dusted pretty quickly. Our plan was to take a taxi from the border straight to Petra (around 60 JOD one way) and we were hoping find other travellers to share the taxi with. As there didn't seem to be a lot of independent travellers crossing the border, we had to wait a bit, but eventually we met a Swiss couple happy to share a taxi with us. In fact, it would have been better to look for taxi-sharing partners before getting to the Jordan side, as the taxi drivers are not happy with sharing rides. It took about 1,5 hours to get to Petra, or actually to the nearby tourist town of Wadi Musa, and we checked into our charming little hotel Esperanza Petra. I can happily recommend this little gem with all the needed conveniences and friendly service. As we had the two day ticket to Petra, and the best times to visit are early morning and late afternoon (this way you can avoid both the worst mid-day heat and the biggest crowds of day-trippers), we decided to go visit that same afternoon.
